How this net worth snapshot works
Net worth is the assets you list minus the debts you list. The donut splits assets by the type you entered. Nothing here looks up account balances or home values.
Questions
- What is counted as liquid?
- Cash, checking and savings, and brokerage, minus credit cards. Retirement accounts, the home, vehicles, and other assets are treated as illiquid, along with the mortgage, auto loan, student loans, and other debts.
- Does paying off a credit card raise net worth?
- Only if the payment comes from somewhere outside the accounts you entered. Paying from cash, checking, or brokerage lowers both assets and debts, so net worth stays the same and the debt-to-asset ratio falls.
- What does the 10, 20, and 30 year tile assume?
- It grows today’s net worth by the percent in More options, once a year, then adds twelve months of the monthly savings you enter. It is an illustration, not a forecast.
